Construction Quantity Calculators

Quick planning quantities for concrete, masonry, drywall, roofing, paving and paint.

Use these calculators for quick, early quantities. They are planning tools — a real quantity takeoff measures the actual drawings, openings, details and waste. All results update as you type.

Concrete volume (slab or footing)

Cubic yards (incl. waste)

Formula: length × width × thickness ÷ 12 ÷ 27, plus waste. See concrete estimating.

CMU block count (8×8×16)

Blocks needed

Formula: (area − openings) × 1.125 blocks per SF, plus waste. Grout, mortar and reinforcing are separate. See masonry estimating.

Drywall sheets (4×8)

Sheets needed

Formula: area ÷ 32 SF per sheet, plus waste. Count each board layer separately. See drywall estimating.

Roofing squares

Roofing squares (100 SF each)

Formula: plan area × slope factor √(1 + (pitch ÷ 12)²) ÷ 100, plus waste. See roofing estimating.

Asphalt paving tonnage

Tons of asphalt

Formula: area × thickness ÷ 12 × density ÷ 2,000. Mix density varies — use your supplier\'s value. See paving estimating.

Paint gallons

Gallons needed

Formula: area × coats ÷ coverage. Coverage depends on product and surface. See finishes estimating.

How estimators use quick quantity calculators

Early in a project — before drawings are complete — estimators use simple formulas to check scope, compare budgets and sanity-check a detailed takeoff. Ratios such as concrete per square foot of slab, blocks per square foot of wall, sheets per square foot of partition and tons per area of paving give a quick reasonableness test. If a detailed quantity takeoff disagrees sharply with the simple answer, something is worth rechecking: scale, thickness, openings, a missed detail or a double-counted area.

Limitations

These tools assume simple geometry and standard unit sizes. They do not account for irregular shapes, reinforcement, forms, corners, returns, accessories, specification requirements or local conditions. Use your own waste factors and supplier data, and rely on a full takeoff for bidding. Related: quantity takeoff explained, glossary and FAQ.

Frequently asked questions

Are these calculators a replacement for a takeoff?

+

No. They give quick planning quantities. A real quantity takeoff measures the actual drawings, openings, details and waste for your project.

What waste factor should I use?

+

Waste depends on material, layout and installer. The calculators let you enter your own percentage; we state waste separately in every estimate so you can adjust it.

Can you check my quantities?

+

Yes. Upload your plans and we will prepare a quantity takeoff or review yours.
